Dave asks Tony Evans to be his coach

Dave has asked Tony Evans to be his coach. Dave and Tony have been friends for nearly 40 years. Tony is himself a cancer survivor and has a graduate degree from Johns Hopkins. Tony has agreed to accompany Dave to doctors appointments and will have Dave’s medical power of attorney.

Tony will you please introduce yourself to our blog readers and elaborate on this post, thanks.

Sure, I’m happy to help you make informed decisions about your treatment to the best of my ability. I’m out of town from 1/22 through 1/28, inclusive, and probably 2/5 through 2/11, inclusive. I may also end up with a regular full time job starting somewhere in mid-February, but that is far from certain. I’m going to try to attend visits with Drs. Patel and Lily and take notes, though I wouldn’t be surprised if they also dropped by and consulted with you during your infusions. If I end up with a job, I’ll probably be best able to attend early morning appointments (like 7:30 or 8).

In case anyone is wondering, I had Burkitt’s Lymphoma in 2010, a very aggressive non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After that, I decided I wanted to do cancer research, so I got an MS in Bioinformatics from Johns Hopkins and spent as much time as I could immersed in cancer literature. I currently volunteer at Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center where I help out in the Jim Olson lab, where they study pediatric glioblastoma.
